March 11th, 2019 // 5th Annual Scrabble Tournament

The Bayfront Convention Center was once again filled with eager spellers at SafeNet’s 5th Annual Scrabble Tournament. The event featured tables of 10 working together as teams to generate the highest point score to win the title of “The Best Spellers in Erie”.

Thanks to Cali’s West Catering, Samurai Kitchen, Taste of Zion, Three Sisters Catering, Sabella’s Catering, Cloud 9 Wine Bar, Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe, and Luminary Distilling for providing hors d’oeuvres and to Stephen Trohoske and Tony Grey for providing music during our Pre-play Party.

And of course, this event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors and volunteers! Thanks to our major sponsors Erie Insurance, Marquette Savings Bank, UPMC Health Plan, Highmark Health,  and Northwest Bank.

October 2018// A poem from Terry Dawley

Our friend Terry Dawley wrote a poem about his family’s experience with domestic violence titled “Dark Sunglasses on Sunless Days.” The poem was recently publised in MUSED BellaOnline Literary Review.

He told us that the poem is dedicated to his mother, Iris Dawley, and his siblings, who are all survivors of domestic violence. You can read Terry’s poem online here:

He said he is thankful for services like SafeNet that exist to help families struggling with domestic violence. We thank you, Terry, for sharing your beautiful work and your gracious donation with us.

August 29th, 2018 // 100 Women 2018: Ruby Slippers Party

SafeNet’s annual 100 Women Event was hosted by Mrs. Lisa NeCastro and drew a great crowd of philanthropic women. Over 200 of these local women raised over $21,000 for SafeNet’s children’s programs. Due to the inclimate weather, the party was held at the historic Watson-Curtze Mansion, where guest were free to roam around the beautiful building with old and new friends.

Thank you, Lisa, for hosting such a lovely event for the second year in a row, and thank you, Erie Insurance and ECGRA, for sponsoring the evening.

August 3rd, 2018 // We had a great time at our 6th Annual Garden Party!
