Donor Highlights

Thanks to Santa’s Helpers

With an overwhelming number of families in need for the holidays, SafeNet asked donors to provide a Christmas to Remember in 2017 for our women and children clients. And Erie did not disappoint!

SafeNet received over $6,850 in monetary donations! This was an overwhelming response. The SafeNet elves purchased clothing, toys and small gifts for families and hosted a Christmas party complete with Santa.   A very sincere thank you to all the donors.

Also, thanks to Brad Postema’s group of 17 Erie Insurance Employees. This group featured a “Mitten Tree” in their office. This is a small Christmas tree with mittens made of construction paper used as ornaments. On each mitten is the first name of a child and what that child would like for Christmas.   Brad’s group purchased the items and made 17 children very happy.

And once again, thanks to the employees of the Knox Law Firm who remembered SafeNet families at Christmas.  These employees make Christmas donations to SafeNet an annual event at Knox.

We are very grateful for all of Santa’s Helpers.

Thanks to employees of the Knox Law Firm for another year of providing gifts for SafeNet clients. Pictured (l-r) are Linda Bennine from Knox, Erika Muhammad, Shannon Getz, and Shannon Johnson from SafeNet.

Superior Toyota Donation

Thanks to Mike Hilling (R), New Car Manager at Superior Toyota, for a $1,000 sponsorship of SafeNet’s Scrabble Tournament.  Also pictured is Geri Cicchetti, SafeNet’s Director of Advancement and Marketing.

Thanks to all who supported SafeNet’s annual Boo Run.   A spooktacular time was had by all!

This event is a favorite event of the participants and SafeNet staff.   $3400 was raised thanks to all who braved the weather on October 29 at Presque Isle.

Behrend’s Berkey Ice Cream Walk/Run Donation

Thanks to the Penn State-Behrend Athletic Department, the Berkey Ice Cream Walk/Run was held on August 25, 2017 to benefit SafeNet.  Over $1,500  was raised.

Pictured  behind the Lion on the Behrend Campus for the check presentation are Behrend employees William Latimer, Equipment Manager; Paul Benim, Head Baseball Coach and Compliance Coordinator; Jill Yamma, Sports information Director; Courtney Sargent, Behrend Student Athlete; Torie Shapter, Behrend’s Assistant to the Director of Athletics; Geri Cicchetti, Director of Advancement and Marketing for SafeNet and Nathan Koble, SafeNet Board Member.

Erie Insurance donates $30,000 to SafeNet in celebration of their 90th Anniversary.

erie insurance dec 2016

(L-R) Erie Insurance Chairman of the Board Tom Hagen, Board of Directors’ Charitable Giving Committee Chair Elizabeth Vorsheck, SafeNet Representative Linda King, Regional Vice President Ann Zaprazny.

In honor of Erie Insurance’s 90th Anniversary and the late Susan Hirt Hagen, Erie Insurance (ERIE) donated a total of $90,000 to charitable organizations across ERIE’s footprint.

Three $30,000 donations were made to organizations that support the arts, education, domestic violence and youth – causes that were important to Susan, daughter of ERIE co-founder H.O. Hirt and first chair of the board of director’s Charitable Giving committee.

Employees voted on the nonprofits that received the donations, and the winners were announced during the annual employee year-end celebration on December 16.

Giving back continues ERIE’s 90-year legacy of supporting the communities in which we do business.

Susan’s legacy of giving back mirrors our own philosophy of “Above All in Service,” and is something ERIE employees easily stand behind.

An Evening in Provence Garden Party

An Evening in Provence was quite a party on Friday, August 14,     in the Big Backyard.  About 200 guests enjoyed the garden atmosphere and (while all expenses are not in yet) we expect to raise a profit of over $45,000 for SafeNet! Many thanks to the very generous donors, artists, and volunteers who made this such a success.

Donor Knox

An office at the Knox Law office doubled as Santa’s workshop as the firm donated gifts for 72 SafeNet clients in our Residential and Non-Residential Programs. They have been a great help for many years, and we truly appreciate their generosity.

Members of the Erie Women’s Fund present a check to Robyn Young (third from left), SafeNet’s Director of Counseling.

On hand for the check presentation are EWF members Kathy Dammeyer, Janet Peters, and Georgia Del Freo.  The EWF sponsored financial self-sufficiency training for SafeNet clients.

On the campus of Penn State-Behrend, students present the proceeds from their Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for SafeNet to Geri Cicchetti (second from left)

Students include (L-R) Max Mook of Butler, Tiffany Bowes of Erie, Liam Duffy of Cleveland and Mitch DiClaudio of Pittsburgh. The students’ main project for their Management 301 class was to implement a fundraiser for a local nonprofit.  They raised $1,300 for SafeNet.

The students chose SafeNet because they wanted to support the cause of domestic violence, which has been a topic in the national media recently.

56 Members of the GE Women’s Fund purchased Christmas gifts for clients at SafeNet and Mercy Center.

Delivering gifts to SafeNet are GE employees Nicole Young, Megan Caldwell, Brooke Young and Alison Kaminski.

SafeNet staff and clients view the many gifts from the GE Women’s Fund.

An exercise class decided to have a 5K run from Frontier Park to SafeNet dressed in their finest Christmas costumes.

Rather than collect a fee for the run, the runners made a donation for  SafeNet clients.

Checking her list twice, all runners have completed the run.
